Projekt je zaměřen na jedno z nejméně prozkoumaných období krétské historie: období arabské expanze 7. - 9. století n. l. Cílem projektu je vytvořit co nejpřesnější chronologický rámec tohoto období a revidovat historický kontext období jak z úhlu pohledu krétského obyvatelstva, byzantského centra i arabského elementu. Projekt se součástí dlouhodobého výzkumného záměru.
