Neo-institutional theorists have pointed out that current policies are often determined or at least highly influenced by decisions that
were made far back in history. Once these decisions were made, countries follow a certain path of development. We plan to trace the
historical development of caring policies for children, the elderly and the sick, to investigate to what extent Czech policies today are
caused by this path dependency. By understanding more clearly how path dependency might prevent the Czech Republic from
developing optimal solutions to its caring policies, our project can help policy-makers overcome these constraints.
