Acute bleeding is frequent and often fatal complication of liver cirrhosis. The factor influence the occurence of rupture and consequent bleeding are portal pressure, size of varices and Child-Pough classification. The role of infection as a trigger function is not quite clear as well as the role of infection in the course of the therapy. Antibiotics are generally recommended but it is not clear what antibiotics and how to give them. The aim of our study is 1. to determine tre occurrence of infection in patients with liver cirrhosis and acute variceal bleeding 2. to evaluate if administration of oral antibiotics can improve the prognosis of clinical course of the bleeding.
