The aim of my research is to investigate the role of various types of contexts (situational, cognitive-conceptual, discourse and bodily) in the production of a selected group of metaphorical idioms of American origin. In doing this, I wish to fill one of the partial gaps in the research of metaphorical idioms, as identified by the proponents of the Extended Conceptual Metaphor Theory. The research brings together the study of context and corpus linguistics analysis as the main tool of research. Beside the implementation of the findings into my dissertation, I would like to present the outcomes of the research at two conferences (Vilnius and Lyon, both taking place in 2021). In the case of the cancellation of these conferences or their going online, the budget will be used to acquire publications (or their copies), necessary for the research. The results of the research, in such case, will be published in the form of an article in an academic journal.
