Therapy of fulminant liver insufficiency and liver insufficiency resulting from chronic liver lesions is difficult and not very efficient. A promising therapeutic prospect of recent years is the utilization of hepatocyte cultures in the bio-artificial li ver systém (BAL) or transplantation of these cells intraperitoneally or intrasplenically. For these purposes it is mandatory to master not only hepatocyte isolation and cultivation, but also their encapsulation and cryopreservation for acute use in pract ice. The aim of our project is establishing and optimization of such methods with the prospect of allotransplantation and the BAL systém utilization. These techniques and systems have not been studied in the Czech Republic yet.
