Lightsheet microscopy is a technology that enables near isotropic imaging of relatively large living or cleared biological specimens. It opens new avenues to study biological processes with unprecedented imaging speed and/or full coverage of entire organs and organisms. Light sheet microscopy has recently become broadly available through commercial imaging platforms. Meanwhile, the light sheet optical technology development continues to push the envelope of what is possible in biological imaging. The life science research community is increasingly interested in exploiting the power of light sheets to answer biological question. However, researchers require training to meet the technological and computational challenges associated with the light sheet microscopy paradigm.
This interdisciplinary course will introduce the participants to the entire gamut of techniques associated with various flavours of light sheet microscopy, including microscope assembly, sample preparation, data acquisition, image processing, analysis and information technology. Our panel of experts covers the optical, biological and computer science aspects of light sheet microscopy and will enable the students to tackle their own research questions with the help of commercial and custom made light sheet microscopes. The course will be followed by the Conference on LightSheet Fluorescence Microscopy in Dresden. Students will actively participate in the conference.
