Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) is deregulated in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) pluripotent stem cells leading to higher levels of reactive oxygen species, mutagenesis and DNA damage which can be attenuated by NOS inhibition. Cardiac differentiation is also impaired in DMD but can improved by NOS inhibition as pilot data show. This project aims to characterize the scope and mechanism of action of the observed attenuation of negative effects of NOS deregulation in cardiac development in DMD.
