Smart product-service systems (PSS) constitute a relatively new offering with growing presence on markets. This concept is the result of a congruence between two trends – servitization, and digitalization. Smart PSS have the potential to minimize negative effects of production and consumption on the environment - by intensifying the use of the product, monitoring its condition and enabling predictive maintenance, optimizing the usage, etc. Moreover, IoT capabilities can be leveraged in PSS to stimulate sustainable behavior of the customers when using the product. From consumers' viewpoint, another advantage of PSS is that it might provide them access to a certain product that they would not be able to buy. In general, they also undergo a smaller financial risk connected to product ownership and maintenance. Despite these benefits, consumer acceptance and adoption of access-based product-service systems remain a challenge since it requires consumers to adapt their traditional consumption patterns. The „smart“ aspect of the offering entails additional challenges such as concerns about security and privacy of the data collected by the devices. The aim of this research if to gain more in-depth understanding of consumer acceptance of smart PSS.
