The aim of the project is a comprehensive analysis of the current political conflict and the ensuing social cleavage of the Czech public. The project focuses on the empirical verification of the widespread thesis of the so-called divided society by testing the influence of potential cleavage factors on the political preferences of the public as well as on interpersonal relations at the non-political level. Research on political and politically motivated social conflicts is based on the perspective of cleavage lines and social identities. The factors of political conflict tested will be political attitudes, symbolic ideology, political partisanship, party preferences and populism. Populism will be operationalized through populist attitudes and preferences of populist actors. An important aspect of political conflict is its diffusion into the non-political sphere of life. The project will use observational data and experimental studies to identify the relationships between these factors and the degree of political division in society in attitudes, in relations to political actors and to each other.
