Staphylococcus aureus stands out among the opportunistic human pathogens because of causing a variety of diseases and a wide potential for acquiring antimicrobial resistance. Due to the spread of methicillin- and vancomycin-resistant strains combined with the ability of biofilm formation that drastically complicates the treatment, this microorganism obtained high priority in the World Health Organisation list of pathogens for the research and development of new treatment approaches.

The research project is aimed to study the phage infection cycle in near-native conditions at high-resolution in situ. Such structural analysis of phage replication is needed for phage introduction as a therapeutic agent and may contribute to the development of more efficient approaches in phage therapy.
