Digital University – Open Ukrainian Initiative
Over the last few years, Ukrainian universities developed significant potential in applying digital technologies to support and promote study and research. The russian invasion of Ukraine caused unprecedented damage to the Ukrainian higher education system. It caused the vital importance of digitalization for Ukrainian universities as well as other educational institutions to continue functioning successfully and maintain communication between all stakeholders.
There is an urgent need to develop a highly effective digital education ecosystem to promote the restoration. Such an ecosystem requires the creation of infrastructure necessary for distance and inclusive learning within the Digital Education Action Plan up to 2027. The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine developed the Concept of Digital Transformation of Education and Science for the period up to 2026 in May 2021. The concept provides: “developing an integrated digital environment uniting all subjects of educational and scientific activity” and stresses the following issues to be resolved: “the lack of high-quality digital educational content for study; inconvenience of obtaining services in the educational system”. Plan of the Education and Science Restoration (August 2022) specifies: “uniting universities into powerful regional centers of higher education”.
The project's scope covers all educational levels and will promote adult education and lifelong learning through obtaining formal, nonformal, and informal digital education.
DigiUni is initiated to influence the chaotic processes of digital transformation in education by creating an integrated digital educational ecosystem in Ukraine to ensure continuous, high-quality, inclusive, and transparent education, regardless of the student's location, with the use of existing digital innovations in the field of education and the understandable paradigm of involving future innovations.
