For almost 50 years, until his death, Francesco Pagliai (1893-1976) prepared a critical edition of Foscolo’s fragmental and unfinished poem "Le Grazie". The critical edition was never completed and only few samples of his work were published in academic journals including «Studi di filologia italiana» and «Studi danteschi». Besides that, Francesco Pagliai was a chancellor of Accademia della Crusca (1943-1971), and a poet and a writer during the second decade of the 20th-century in the Florentine avant-garde. Through the investigation of Pagliai’s manuscripts hold at the archive of Accademia della Crusca, his correspondence and the reconstruction of his youth in Firenze, my research aims either to reconsider the impact of Pagliai’s scholarship on 20th-century Italian my research aims to reconsider the impact of Professor Pagliai’s scholarship on 20th-century Italianr to shed light on his philological method adopted in preparing "Le Grazie"’s critical edition.
