The proposed project aims at shedding light on the thus far unknown Tibetan diaspora in Taiwan in regard to food as an identity marker. First, to understand the adaption as well as the (re-)invention of food in the diaspora, historical documents on “traditional” Tibetan food of pre-1951 Tibet, held in various archives in Taiwan, shall be examined. Secondly, by conducting ethnographic fieldwork among the Tibetan community in Taiwan, their construction of Tibetanness through the lens of food shall be examined.
