American Cultural Influence in the Global Era - a CORE course project (AMCINGE)

American culture in all its varieties has become an ever-present phenomenon in the contemporary, globalized world. Its influence on other cultures is both positive and negative, sometimes overt and sometimes hidden, obvious, surprising, as well as unexpected – and virtually unavoidable. The course “American Cultural Influence in the Global Era” will introduce a variety of American cultural products that may be found around the globe, explain their origins and current state, study the wide range of their artistic, social, historical, economic, legal and other aspects, and critically discuss their role today. Understanding the key elements of globalized American culture today will contribute to students’ better understanding of the cultural space in the 21st century in general, and see how the only contemporary superpower, which is the United States, exerts its global influence even in the realm of culture.
