This project will contribute to the development of two essays for my doctoral dissertation, which is structured as a collection of three essays in health economics. In the first paper, I use health registry data and machine learning predictive models to estimate the impact of a potential reduction in Caesarean sections on intrapartum health outcomes for mothers. The second paper exploits a natural experiment—a drop in air pollution caused by the unexpected adoption of new technologies—to identify the mid- and long-term impacts of air quality improvements on cancer prevalence and mortality. This paper utilizes unique individual-level data, geocoded at the municipal level, and is augmented with air quality data from ground-based measuring stations and dispersion models.
Additionally, the project will support my professional growth, as I plan to use the resources to cover the costs of attending advanced courses at universities in Vienna, as well as a summer school focused on advanced causal inference methods.
