Description There is probably no other sport, in which there are so many controversies and speculations about a referee’s decision, as there is in football. Responsibility of sports referees as well as detailed monitoring and evaluation from professional players, coaches, control bodies, and public, present significant psychological stress. The development of a match, atmosphere of a football pitch, pleasant and unpleasant experiences – all of these influence the actual psychological state of the referee and subsequently his activity. Thus, the dynamics of subjective experiences and psychological states of football referees are very important aspects of referees’ activity. Our paper is focused on the subjective experiences and psychological states of football referees. Our findings are discussed in terms of type of competition, age, and length of referees’ practice. As a supplement, it considers an evaluation of the temperament type of each referee, which is an important factor for the dynamics of subjective experience.
