Description The article focuses on solving the problem of whether insurance settlement can be considered a source of financing business activities, namely within a marginal situation of a company, for which we consider a situation in which the company is affected by the consequences of an insured event. Insurance settlement is thus seen as a tool for managing increased risk (disaster) or even hazard. The following criteria according to which the insurance settlement can be classified as a financial resource of a business can be taken into consideration: - a general definition of a financial resource, - an explicit list of financial resources, - a set of individual characteristics (which can be applied to the resource), and - a crucial individual characteristic of financial resources (quantifiable), according to which the status of insurance settlement has to be respected. The results presented in the article show that insurance settlement exists (for insured risks) as a potential that can be conditionally mobilized in the event of an insured event (marginal situation). And if an insured event really occurs, insurance settlement becomes a real source of corporate financing, whose importance is enhanced by the fact that in some individual characteristics the insurance settlement even surpasses conventional resources (availability, resource price, etc.).
