Description | Plesiomonas shigelloides is bacteria which occurring in the aquatic environment and can cause human and animal diseases . The aim of this study was to characterize of P. shigelloides strains on the base of selected phenotypic and genotypic methods (ribotyping), which allow identification and typing of this etiological agent. 45 strains of P. shigelloides from different sources (people, animals, water) and geographic areas were tested. Variability in phenotypic characters (arginin dihydrolase, ornithin decarboxylase and beta-galactosidase) key to identify of species was found in some strains of P. shigelloides. Positive DNase activity was detected for most strains (98%), although P. shigelloides is described as DNase negative bacterial species. At the genotypic level, high heterogenity of tested strains was found. Human strains of different origin exhibiting similarity of ribotypes more than 90% were also detected by cluster analysis. |
