Description | The aim of this study was to compare results from the two usually used indirect methods for the assessment of maximal oxygen consumption estimation – Cooper walk/run test on treadmill and bicycle ergometry maximal test – and to assess an applicability of these two methods for physical fitness assessment of the individual in the frame of primary preventive examination. It was revealed that VO2max predictions gained from Cooper test on treadmill were underestimated in comparison to bicycle ergometry test in average about 8,6 % (p < 0,001) in the whole group. The differences varied in its rates in the subgroups according to how trained the subgroups were and the prevailing type of physical aktivity; the highest differences between the two tests were in the subgroup of cyclists (-12,0 %), students of medicine (-10,9%) and in the subgroup of persons without special preferences on the prevailing type of physical activity, and in these subgroups the differences were also statistically significant (p < 0,01), whereas the differences were substantially less different in the subgroup of runners (-4,6 %, statistically nonsignificant), and in the subgroup of triathletes there were practically no differences. We showed that the Cooper walk/run test on treadmill is much more susceptible to the influences like training experience, prevailing type of physical activity, motivation and so on. After the evaluation of the results we consider exercise test on bicycle ergometer as a more suitable tool for assessment of physical fitness for average trained population. |
