Description | The conference Thinking Europe in the 20th century: Europe divided/integrated is in the first place focused on contrast between conflict and cooperation. Both reciprocal rivalry and cooperation are the two principal phenomena that have been forming the European history since the end of the 19th century till present days. With respect to the constantly ongoing events related to the end of 20th century, the conference is delimited by the years 1914–1989, both of which can be considered milestones of the previous century. From the thematic point of view, the conference was divided into two sections, which are focused on one of the main streams of contemporary history: international and political questions, economic history and cultural history. Each section is subsequently divided into three blocks, devoted to the problematic of ideas, struggles for power and situations of crisis. These sections should be capable of bringing new answers to these questions and at the same time demonstrate in which way the 20th century Europe managed to deal with the problem of conflict and cooperation. Thus, a contribution can be made to a more comprehensive image of modern European history. |
