Description | In this contribution, measurements of solar UV radiation and the other meteorological observations at the Czech J.G. Mendel Station (James Ross Island, Antarctica) are presented. Since 2006, there are installed the following instruments: CM11 pyranometer (Kipp-Zonen), CUV3 broadband UV radiometer (Kipp-Zonen), UVSABT radiometer (Kipp-Zonen), and UV-Biometer Robertson Berger Model 501A (Solar Light Co.) In order to examine spatiotemporal differences between the satellite-derived UV radiation and ground-based measurements, daily mean values and residuals are calculated and compared. The validation of the UV time series showed that satellite-derived surface UV data was underestimated by app. 20% due to the snow cover and low cloud occurrence. |
