Description For a considerable period of time the Czech party system was among the most stable in Central Europe, and contrasted in this respect with the situations in Slovakia and Poland. Over the last couple of years, however, several changes have occurred in Czech politics which have led to a transformation of the country’s party spectrum. In the 2010 election of the Chamber of Deputies, two previously non-parliamentary parties managed to obtain seats: TOP 09 and Public Affairs (Věci veřejné, VV). The chapter analyzes these two actors with the aim of establishing whether they might be counted among mainstream parties, or whether they are essentially oppositional.
