| Description | The paper deals with the concept of information in the terms of epistemology and methodology. There are defined the concepts of epistemology, methodology, method and there is examined their impact on the particular movements in information science. Then the paper states two basic epistemological questions and there are differentiated four approaches: realism, skepticism, subjectivism and objectivism. There is examined their relationship to methodology and there are provided some examples of these trends in information science. There is defined the notion of concept and there are identified four basic approaches: extreme realism, moderate realism, conceptualism and nominalism, and there are showed some examples of these approaches in information science. The paper concludes that the concept of information is a transcendental concept which can be defined only verbally, and therefore it should be considered its continued use in information science. |
