Description Viral hepatitis B and C are common cause of chronic liver diseases. Viral hepatitis D is extremely rare in the Czech Republic, only immigrants can be infected more frequently. Hepatitis D virus is a satellite virus it needs host virus – hepatitis B virus – for its replication and transfer. Vaccination against hepatitis B virus is therefore protective against hepatitis D virus infection as well. Vaccine against hepatitis C virus has not been generated yet.
