Description Carbon fibers (CF), commercially available advanced materials notable for their high tensile strength are used to fabricate strong and lightweight composite materials, where high strength-to-weight ratio and rigidity is of importance. Individual carbon fibers can be used as fantastic electrode material. The diameter, typical for most CFs is 7-8 micrometers, granting the microelectrode properties to resulting carbon fiber microelectrodes (CFMs). Types of CFs, fabrication protocols for CFMs, surface modifications and analytical applications of CFMs are summarized in this contribution.
