Description | This textbook is a primer for students of Practicals in population ecology of animals. The aim of the textbook is to show in 24 exercises application of mathematical tools to a variety of problems encountered in the population ecology of animals. The exercises are solved using the R environment. The textbook includes estimation of a variety of parameters, e.g. population size, rate of population increase, rate of ontogenetic development, functional response, numerical response, dispersal; demographic analysis; and simulations of interactions between species, such as competition or predation. The exercises were selected to represent real practical situations, such as conservation of rare species, pest control, sustainable harvest and epidemiology. The textbook shows students how to use modern empirical methods in management of animals. |
