Description | If economic history would be written as the history of business ethics, we would probably find that the familiar milestones, characterized by different stages of economic theory and practice, raises new milestones that allow us to look at the development of world economy and its institutions in a different perspective. One of these forgotten chapters of economic history is story of Monte di pieta. These companies (from the Middle Ages to the present) are the pawn shop, providing a slightly lower interest loan, in exchange for a pledge. Their service used mainly by the lower and middle classes, both for loans and deposits of which were secured against theft, available on request and also served for a benevolence |
