Description | Objectives: The aim of the theoretical studies was to briefly characterize the team and the teamwork in hospice care, its evaluation and also to present the selected measurement tool useful for the evaluation of the teamwork in hospice care. Background: The focus of the work was grounded in the validation studies of several authors (Gittell et al. 2000; Hoegl, Gemuenden 2001; Sorra, 2004; Alexander et al. 2005; Wageman et al., 2005; Sexton et al. 2006; Edmondson, 2007; Ryan, Cott, 2008), who dealt with the creation of measurement and evaluation tools for examining the efficiency, functionality and team culture of multidisciplinary teams in health care. Methods: The teamwork assessment measurement tools in health care published abroad and validated have been analyzed analytically and synthetically. The literary and electronic sources gathered through the research and the reviewed full-text online databases (EBSCO, SCOPUS, Web of Knowledge) formed the basis of the analysis. Results: The proposed measurement instrument of the team culture level at multidisciplinary hospice teams is Dimensions of Teamwork survey – DTEAM (Ryan, 2008; Ryan, Cott, 2008). DTEAM was created for the purposes of executing the regular team culture surveys as a part of the internal processes of the multidisciplinary teams in health services. Conclusion: In connection with the increasing demand for all types of teams working in the medical field, it is necessary to expand the knowledge basis for the particular issues of the team functioning in health care and the possibilities of the evaluation of its effectiveness or functionality. For implementing the selected measurement tool into national practice the profound national validation is necessary to be made, the process of which is currently under construction. |
