Description | Teachers in general do not follow regular duties only but also take account of their personal visions of what and how to teach students. However, in today's democratic world, they also should be reflective to student’s wishes, try to meet their preferences and provide balance and positive atmosphere in the educational process. In response to the research activities of the department in previous years (Research into use of multimedia technology in music education in primary schools, 2010 and the research into use of multimedia technology in music education in secondary schools, 2011) the department of the Faculty of Music Education of Masaryk University in Brno conducted a nationwide extensive research, this time addressed to the students from all universities in the country, based on audio samples. The research objectives were to test a new technique of musical-sociological and empirical research, to determine the effectiveness and efficiency of general music education of previous school levels (elementary, secondary) and to ascertain the degree of influence of extracurricular music activities on students’s music preferences. It is also supposed to explore students‘s generic and genre preferences, tolerance and their ability to identify genres of artificial and non-artificial music, closely related to their value orientation which relatively indicates their stable music profile, which is not usually cultivated in their future life any more, but simply influenced by pressure of the mass media. The results will be presented and theoretically reflected in this paper. |
