Description Ecological stability is the key property of living systems which desribes their ability to maintain themself. The concept of stability can be apply from the level of organisms to the level of global ecosystem. The degree of ecological stability also affects social stability, since human society is one of the subsystems of the global ecosystem. The ecological stability can be assess from many point of view, which differ in dependence on the charakcter of living system (e.g global ecosystem, forest ecosystem, population of herbivor, population of bacteria, human being). The book, with an emphasis on a systematic approach to hierarchical levels of ecological systems presents a variety of approaches to describe the ecological stability, from those based on history of ecosystems, approaches taking into account interactions between species, approaches of Ecological Thermodynamics to other possible insights.
