| Description | The geological development of the town and its surroundings since the Proterozoic to the Quaternary is described in the chapter. The attention is focussed especially on the Jurassic Ernstbrunn limestone that forms pricipal morphological elevation in the town territory. The Cretaceous to Tertiary sedimentary rocks of the Carpathian Flysch Belt and Miocene sedimentary fillings of the Carpathian Foredeep and Vienna Basin are also evaluated. The last geological unit contained important finding places of Miocene fossils. |
