Description | The present monograph presents a synthesis of research results achieved between 2007 and 2013 within the framework of the “Special Needs of Pupils in the Context of Framework Education Programmes” (MSM 0021622443) research centre by the team that focused on foreign language teaching to pupils in inclusive classrooms. The team members were recruited from the departments of English, German, French and Russian Languages at the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University in Brno. The theoretical section of the book deals with current approaches to foreign language teaching and learning as elaborated by foreign language didactics and the special educational conception of inclusion as an approach aimed at accommodating the needs of all learners. The empirical section of the book summarizes the main findings of a series of research studies completed in the seven years of the existence of the research centre. The studies were realized in co-operation with lower-secondary school teachers from the South Moravian region. The research focused on the issues of the development of foreign language communicative competences of pupils with specific learning difficulties, support of learning strategies, analysis of foreign language coursebooks, use of alternative teaching methods and drama education in foreign language classes, and evaluation and self-evaluation of pupils with specific learning difficulties. The empirical section also includes two studies dealing with the issues of gifted and talented pupils in foreign language classes and the accommodation of socially disadvantaged pupils. |
