Description | Erica tetralix belongs to biogeographically distinctive members of the flora of the Czech Republic, with clear oceanic tendency in distribution and with Czech sites forming the south-eastern edge of the species' distributional range. The origin of its occurrence at most localities, and thus its native status in the Czech flora, however, remains questionable. Until recently, three extant sites were known in the Czech Republic (Doksy region, Jizerské hory Mts and Šumava Mts). Here we report a new finding of Erica from Tajga bog in Slavkovský les Mts, where small population grows in open bog vegetation of Sphagnion magellanici alliance. Considering the circumstances, we admit the possibility of natural origin of this occurrence and tend to support the native status of Erica tetralix in the Czech flora. |
