Description | The article brings the insight of the Czech, Russian and Ukrainian ethnographers and linguists into birth ceremonials of West and East Slavs, relating to taking the new born child into family, community and church (christening, "taking to corner" ritual, church introduction, godparenthood). The aim of this article is to find connecting and diverse points in the transition rituals which accompany human beings regardless time or space borders, such are gifts for the new born child, visits during puerperium and feasts. The essay draw inspiration from folklore (e. g. lullabies), where the author refers to the moments like bewitch or exchange of a new born, which are taking us back to the matter of rituals in traditional folk culture, also to the matter of pagan and Christian symbol interconnection. There are also links between the birth and burial ceremonies – the confrontation of East and West Slavs helps to clarify the culture and spiritual progress of Slavonic ethnic group. |
