Description Using cost-effective 454 GS-FLX Titanium sequencing technology, microsatellite markers were isolated de novo for Barbus meridionalis. Five multiplex sets including 28 newly and two previously-developed loci were optimized using allopatric populations of both B. barbus and B. meridionalis. Our study revealed the high success rate of cross-species amplification in two Balkan species, B. cyclolepis and B. balcanicus.
