Description | The author deals with the beginnings of the Christianization of the Prussian regions by the Cistercians and particularly by the first bishop Christian as well as with the following stage connected with the employment of the knightly orders for the defence of the Polish areas against the pagan Prussians. The article also concerns the coming of Order of the Teutonic Knights on behalf of Konrad of Masovia and the beginnings of the formation of the Order’s domain. A specific role in terms of the support of this activity was played by the Bohemian kings of the Přemyslid dynasty. This support culminated in two military campaigns by Přemysl Otakar II to Prussia and later in a close political alliance with Bohemian and Polish King Wenceslaus II. |
