Description Type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1) and multiple sclerosis (MS) are organ-specific autoimmune diseases. DM1 and MS carry a number of common features, especially disturbed autotolerance and regulation of the immune system. In our case report, we present a patient who was diagnosed with DM1 with multiple organ involvement at the age of 15. At the age of 31, we diagnosed CIS (Clinically Isolated Syndrome) and started treatment with subcutaneous interferon beta-1a (Rebif 44). The purpose of this report is to emphasize possible coincidence of DM1 and MS, common features of both autoimmune diseases and possible pitfalls of the diagnostic process.
