Description | Chapter 1 Languages and multilingualism in the Czech education describes the language policy and curricular framework conditions of the research project which is presented in detail in this book. In addition to a brief description of the attitude of the Czech society towards multilingualism, relevant contents of the essential documents (School Legislation, Framework Education Programme and Education Standards) for the area of foreign languages are outlined. These documents – both for the elementary and secondary education – are in fact based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, albeit with their own focuses. Despite the fact that the Czech language teaching has not hitherto pursued any multiple multilingualism concepts, it is constructed along the line of the Framework of Reference, focusing namely the language skills and actions. This is also valid for the new Czech centralized GCSE exam which requires a test on the B1 level for the first and the second foreign language including writing skills. |
