Description | Chapter 6 Research design describes the main objectives and framework conditions of the research project, the results of which are shown in detail in chapter 10 to 14 (i.e. studies I to V). The focus of interest is the question of whether transfer appears in learners through contact with different languages in the areas of text linguistic competence and the associated writing skills. Knowing that both declarative and procedural knowledge can be transferred when learning more foreign languages, we assume in our research that this transfer takes place not only in linguistic but also in the socio-linguistic and pragmatic area, since in (tertiary) language learning the metalinguistic awareness plays a crucial role. In this chapter, the framework (i.e. the participating schools), the procedure and the evaluation are described in more detail, in addition to the preliminary and accompanying studies. As a basis for the analysis from the point of view of text linguistics, a text corpus including five different text kinds with a total of 939 texts in three languages (Czech, English, and German) is used. |
