Description | Chemical calculations belong to the most difficult parts of chemistry education for pupils at lower secondary schools. This unflattering fact is directly related to the current trend of declining mathematical literacy of Czech pupils. This fact is proved by findings of the Czech School Inspectorate in 2013 according to which the Czech Republic was one of eleven countries of the OECD whose results of mathematical literacy of pupils has significantly deteriorated since 2003. This effect is so large that one fifth of Czech pupils now belong to group with bad, inadequate mathematical literacy. The paper aims to introduce practical professional motivational methods for teaching chemical calculations with the aim to maintain the quality of teaching chemistry at lower secondary school. |
