Description | The text presents methodological and epistemological debate based on the applied research project The Memory of Roma Workmen. I focus, alongside the process of collection of Slovak Roma´s memories, on coming to Czech cities for work after 1945, on the process of creating the relations of trust during the co-operation of academic and non-academic team members, as well as the ethno-major and ethno-minor team members. It is exactly the aspect of ethnization that is pointing to the orientalist tendencies in social science and everyday interactions. The text presents, based on Said, Nader, Alexander, deCerteau and others, what strategies of non-empowering the hegemonic ethnicized relations can be chosen. It, among the others, presents the prevention of exotization by preliminary reading of ethnologic literature, dealing with own experiencing of meeting with the Other and using Roma/ethno-minor language as a working language. Finally, the short argumentation for not abandoning the ethnic identification as a conceptual frame, despite its seeming obsoleteness is presented. |
