| Description | The article deals with the development of conceptual understanding economic growth and economic development after the Second World War to the present. It critically focuses on the understanding of economic growth as the most important criterion for assessing the economic evaluation of the economic development of individual countries. Furthermore there are mentioned the practical consequences related to economic policy and practice which amongst others show how reflected economic dogma of the necessity of constant GDP growth in developed and developing (less developed) countries. The paper shows that a level of development of the country and a standard of living cannot be guaranteed and evaluated only on the basis of economic growth, but on the basis of economic development, that we understand as all activities aimed at improving the economic, structural, technical, cultural and social fundamentals of quality of life of inhabitants belonging to the society respectively to the territory |
