Description | Effective treatment of cancer often causes patients irreversible damage of reproductive abilities. New trend in reproductive medicine commonly described as oncofertility offers cancer patients not only infertility treatment, but also potent prevention of irreversible damage of reproductive organs and functions. Aim of this project is to develop and transfer to clinical practice efficient procedures to minimize permanent negative consequences of oncology treatment with the view of increased life quality of cured cancer patients. The understanding of human reproductive ageing process helps to identify energetic modalities of such prevention. In the outset principles of determined number of primordial follicles, factors influencing women’s reproductive potential while ageing and reasonable markers of ovarian reserve are summarized. Epidemiology of cancer in reproductive age in general and current rise of its incidence is discussed. Further negative implications of various modalities of anticancer treatment towards fertility are described and possible mechanisms of its actions are formulated. Various options of premature menopause risk prediction are also interesting. Finally current methods of reproductive function protection in men and women are described in details, which include both crypreservation techniques and potential drugs used to protect and restore gametogenesis.Practical outcomes and recommendations are given for consultation caretakers in reproductive age patients threatened with significant fertility loss. Based on authors own practical experience patient’s fertility preservation program inclusion criteria are proposed and appropriate oncofertility technique is recommended according to patient’s primary diagnosis. |
