Description | Selected Central and Southeastern European plant assemblages were compared to throw new light on the Late Miocene evolution of European ecosystems and climate dynamics. A practical comparison of Bulgarian, Slovak and Czech palaeofloras provides new data about south-north trend in vegetation distribution patterns in studied area. Changes in abundance of palaeotropic and thermophilous elements, possible reduction of macrothermic elements and increase in the role of arctotertiary species.Changes in topography together with Paratethyan regression leads to shrinking water bodies and respective vegetation response, appearance of open landscapes, and warm-temperate climate with long dry period and reduced rainfall. |
