Description | A good knowledge on phase relations in the Mn-Ti system is of great importance because this system plays a significant role in hydrogen storage materials, titanium aluminum duplex alloys with high strength intermetallics for aerospace and turbine applications as well as in high strength materials for biomedicine. This system has been experimentally and thermodynamically investigated and assessed several times but thermodynamic evaluation leading to a reliable thermodynamic description of higher order systems is still far from reality. This work aims at a new thermodynamic assessment and correct thermodynamic description of the Ti-Mn system supported by calorimetric and ab-initio data for the Laves phase TiMn2 (C14) as well as by new experimental data on phase equilibria. |
