Description | The Faculty of Geography at the Perm State National Research University, the third largest in Russia, has seven specialized departments. The Faculty consists of following departments: Physical geography and landscape ecology, Meteorology and air protection, Hydrology and water resources protection, Biogeocenology and nature conservation, Tourism, Social and economic geography, Cartography and geoinformatics. The faculty currently enrolled about 1,000 students. The bachelor studies are organized in four years of study, the master studies lasts for two years. Doctoral studies are planned for three years, but this study is just starting. Together with the Faculty of Biological Sciences, geographers and geography students take care for the botanical garden, which is focused on the species of the boreal zone of the planet, but numerous subtropical and tropical plants grow in greenhouses. Physical geographers are involved in the study of river channels processes in recent years (and with very good results), usually also participated in the research funded by the administration at various levels. Longtime attention is paid to flood risk and danger of forest fires. |
