Description Primary and secondary preventive measures significantly reduce the risk of stroke. Hypertension is the most important risk factor for it. The slight decrease in the systolic-diastolic blood pressure leads to a 42% decrease in the incidence of stroke. Patients who have had a stroke, antihypertensive treatment reduces the likelihood of relapse, even those whose blood pressure is regarded as normal. Evidence for such treatment have been obtained especially for the combination of an ACE inhibitor with a diuretic. The use of angiotensin receptor blockers II in small doses, it appears safe.
