Description | A study of the FAO indicates that approximately one third of food made for human consumption is globally unused, which counts to 1.3 billion tons a year. Food is wasted throughout the whole supply chain - from the initial agricultural production to the final consumption in households or individuals. The world population is estimated to be 9 bilion by 2050. To ensure that there is enough food to cover this increase, it is nessary for agricultural production, in spite of decreasing sources and climate changes, to be increased. Simultaneously it is important to fight against food losses and food waste since the increase of food production does not have to be sufficient and natural sources are not bottomless. The priority should, howeever, always be food safety. Food must be treated in the way not to negatively influence their safety and adibility, but also with respect to nature, which provides us with the food. |
