| Description | In 50' and 60' of 20th century was restored few of late gothic altars in church of Saint Jacob in Levoča, Slovakia. This action have caused grown of interests about Master Pavol, probably author of these altars. First wooden copies of his work were made in 50' because of presentation of Czechoslovakia on EXPO exhibition in Brusel 1958. Even more copies and fascimilies were made for planed museum of Master Pavol in Levoča (opened in the end of 80' as specific exposition which is built exactly on reproductions of originals). Many of these newly produced copies were used as representation of Czechoslovakia and Slovakia in many ocasions (exhibitions abroad as well as in Slovakia). Speech was focused on development of these copies, their authors, as well as on their function and authenticity. How could copy replace the original? Does visitor of museum realize that he/she is observing copies? How was the reception of exposing these copies abroad? |
