Description Navigation is an activity all of us undertake every day of our lives. Within familiar environments we manage by experience, but as soon as we move into unfamiliar environments we need assistance in the form of maps, directions or a guide. Nowadays all three of these forms of assistance can be delivered on a mobile device for in-car use and there are a number of commercial products available. However, maps, directions and guiding for the pedestrian is still a research topic as the range of users is much greater than for in-car navigation and the usage problems are more complex.
